Digital Eye Strain

What is Digital Eye Strain

All backlit, digital devices emit blue light and screen glare - the two main culprits of digital eye strain - and this optical issue has become an increasing problem in our screen saturated society.

This is not us dissing digital! We are all about it and are as glued to our devices as anyone, but with 74% of Americans required to use a computer at work, smartphone users spending 3-5 hours on their phones a day, and even our books and magazines going digital, our exposure to digital light has soared, and our eyes and our sleep are suffering as a result!

Red, dry, itchy, and achingly tired eyes, as well as blurred vision, a hard time focusing, headaches, and more severely migraines, are all classic symptoms of Digital Eye Strain. In fact, over 60% of Americans are already experiencing these symptoms - often without understanding why.

What are the Symptoms?

Dry Eyes
Headaches
Blurry Vision
Eye Fatigue

Can anything be done?

Absolutely! It’s why we exist! Your Baxter’s filter out nearly 80% of the high energy blue light (during the day when some Blue light exposure is good) and our sleep glasses (melatonin magic makers!) specifically target the blue light in the 450-500nm range responsible for suppressing melatonin that helps you sleep. They are also designed to reduce glare completely, resulting in better contrast, crisper visuals, and more enjoyable digital optics! Our glasses are proven to significantly relieve Digital Eye Strain symptoms (just check our reviews), and they do so with style and sophistication too!

Blue light disruption

Blue light during the day is actually a good thing. The sun is the largest natural source, and it serves to boost attention, increase reaction times, and lift your mood. However, at night, artificial blue light disrupts your circadian rhythm and the natural release of melatonin (the hormone that tells your mind and body when it’s time to sleep and wake up).
Because the blue light tricks our brain into believing it’s still daytime, falling asleep can be difficult, and we don’t sleep as deeply.

Sleep matters

So why the big fuss about blue light these days? Sleep is chronically important. Not only does it make you feel better and think clearer, but sleep has a monumental impact on your body’s adrenal, nervous, and immune systems too. Good sleep leads to lower blood pressure and higher immunity. Sleep has also been linked to many larger issues like weight gain, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
Are we telling you a pair of glasses will correct all that? No, but better sleep and better self-care definitely will!
